The former head of Scotland Yard’s paedophile unit yesterday called for the men guilty of widespread child abuse claims to be tracked down and prosecuted.
Retired Detective Superintendent Michael Hames led a team in the 90s which pioneered much of today’s expertise on how to bring perverts to justice.
But he admitted his unit was so under-resourced his officers may not have investigated every person who emerged in their inquiries.
Welcoming a new police probe into allegations of widespread child sex abuse, he said: “If there is more information and the people concerned are still alive they should be dealt with.”
He spoke out amid a storm over allegations senior politicans may be linked to child abuse at care homes.
